EXPERIENCE YOU CAN COUNT ON
For more than 30 years, Suzanne Harris and Peter Helwig have been helping the disenfranchised with their Social Security and employment law issues. Suzanne was a lead attorney in Social Security and other public benefits litigation for nearly 20 years in legal services programs in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Florida. Peter brought a number of significant civil rights cases and served as Executive Director of Florida Rural Legal Services for eight years. Suzanne formed the law firm of Harris & Helwig in 1995, and Peter joined the firm in 1999.
A Commitment to Affordable, Personal Service
The law firm is dedicated to providing personal service to every one of their clients. Harris & Helwig's partners both come from a background in public service, and are committed to making the law firm a place where representation is provided to all clients with meritorious Social Security and employment cases without regard to their ability to pay a legal fee. In most cases, we represent clients on a contingent fee basis, which means that we do not charge an hourly rate for our services, but we are paid by receiving a percentage of your award, if you win your case.
Consultations for potential clients with Social Security issues are free. If your Social Security case is accepted for representation, it will be on a contingent fee basis. That means that no fee will be due unless you WIN your case. For employment law cases, we request a consultation fee of $200.00. If your employment case is accepted for representation, it may be on the basis of a contingent fee agreement, or we may request that you pay us on an hourly basis.
Harris & Helwig also offers mediation services for civil cases in state and federal courts, as well as for matters that have yet to be filed in the court system. Peter Helwig is certified by the Florida Supreme Court to serve as a court-appointed mediator in civil cases in the circuit courts of the state of Florida. He is also certified by the U.S. District (federal) Court for the Middle District of Florida to serve as a court-appointed mediator in cases filed in that court. If you have a civil dispute that needs the help of a certified mediator, contact our firm today.
