Lakeland Wrongful Termination Attorneys

Have You Been Fired?

If you feel your termination was wrongful, you may have a claim against your employer. At Harris & Helwig, our experienced employment and labor law attorneys Peter Helwig and Kathryn Piscitelli will help you analyze your termination and determine whether or not you have a claim. Their focus is on employment law and they have more than 50 years of combined experience. Additionally, both are board certified by the Florida bar as specialists in labor and employment law.

Was My Termination Wrongful?

Most people are presumed to be employees at will, which means they are free to quit for any reason and your employer is free to fire you for almost any reason. Your termination is wrongful, however, if it was the result of any of the following:

  • Discrimination on the job, whether motivated by bias concerning race, national origin, ancestry, religion, age, sex, or disability.
  • Retaliation for filing a workplace complaint, complaining about unlawful conditions (whistle-blower), forming or organizing a union, or even asserting protected rights such as the right to file a worker's compensation claim or the right to be free from harassment.

Representation for your employment law case is usually provided on a contingency fee basis. This means that you pay no legal fee upfront and only pay an attorney fee if we receive compensation for you. You are, however, responsible for out-of-pocket costs such as court filing fees and transcript fees.
